The phenomenon of urban shrinkage, as a global issue, affects changes in population patterns. The first main sign of urban shrinkage is the reduction of the city's population, which is affected by various economic, social, environmental, and political causes and drivers. Shrinkage occurs at any level, whether national or regional. , urban and rural, leaves deep effects in different dimensions on the physical and non-physical structures of that settlement. According to the economic and population problems that Iran is facing, reducing the population growth rate has become an important issue. However, this issue is more severe in some places; In this way, the population growth rate becomes negative and that area loses its attractions to maintain residents and attract immigrants. According to studies, Bostan-Abad  has always faced population decline and contraction during the years 1375 to 1395. The present research was carried out with a quantitative method and by examining the statistics and land use changes of the city in these years using the object-oriented processing method. Then, the relationship between the studied components has been checked using the random forest machine learning function. Based on the findings of the research, the contraction of Bostan Abad city has been related to rural contraction and its rural population has always decreased. This problem, which is associated with the increase of migration outside the city and the aging of the population, has caused a decrease in the cultivated area in the city and if it continues, it can cause serious damages.
